Addiction Recovery FAQs
What’s the Difference Between Abuse & Addiction
Drug abuse, also referred to as substance/chemical abuse, is a disorder characterized by destructive patterns of using any chemical substance, including alcohol, that lead to significant problems or issues. Individuals who abuse drugs & alcohol still have control over their lives. Drug addiction or dependency, on the other hand, is identified by an inability to stop using a drug and failure to meet work, social or family obligations. Physical dependence alone does not constitute addiction, but it often accompanies addiction.
How Do I Know if I Need Rehab?
If you experience withdrawal symptoms after you stop taking a drug or consuming alcohol, or if you have been instructed by your physician to stop doing drugs or drinking for your health, you should seek treatment. If you have lost your job, your spouse/life partner, alienated friends & other family members, or have continually experienced negative impacts on your life due to drug & alcohol abuse, seek treatment. Once you develop an addiction, quitting drugs or alcohol by yourself is almost impossible and if you’re like most people, drug rehab is the only thing that will save you.
What is a Detox Period?
Detox is a process or period of time in which one abstains from or rids the body of toxic or unhealthy substances, such as drugs or alcohol, to become physically stable; detoxification. The detox period comes during the first stages of treatment, and can last from 3-5 days as the body clears itself of the toxins and chemicals that have been abused.
Why is Treatment After Detox Important?
After detox, which StepOne Service™ treats over a 3 to 5-day period, you should continue on with some form of addiction treatment to learn coping strategies for maintaining sustained sobriety. You will need services like individual therapy, group therapy, family counseling, a recovery program, and relapse prevention training as well as behavioral modification and life skills classes. This phase may take place at a residential treatment center or outpatient facility. StepOne™ Service can assist in placement into a treatment center based on your individual needs.
What is the First Step in Getting Treatment
The first step you can take to get your loved one into a drug rehabilitation center is to be honest with yourself and others. To begin this process with StepOne Service™ we start with a Telephone Pre-Screening. During the prescreening process we will identify the need for admission into one of our centers, the patients dedication & commitment to receiving treatment, and begin a specific & individualized recovery plan.
Is Treatment Covered by Insurance?
While each case is different, StepOne Service™ accepts most insurance plans. Our Care Coordinators will assist you with determining if your insurance covers treatment, and facilitate billing accordingly. At this stage, recovery is the most important focus.
